McKinney Newborn Session

This McKinney Newborn Session is absolutely beautiful. Having a baby born in the NICU adds a whole new level of stress to the family of a newborn baby. When Baby Carter’s grandfather, Willie, contacted us after many walks around the NICU at VCU, he was so excited to have us photograph the next generation of his family legacy, that he booked the session before they knew the date Cater would be released to go home. We are honored to have our beautiful newborn portraits displayed in this wing of the hospital. They help to remind new parents and grandparents that their best days are yet to come, for their loved ones that are in need of a little extra support when they are born.

When the McKinney family arrived at the studio we were so happy to finally meet Carter and his mother. They are a beautiful family, so it’s no wonder that Cater is so cute! We began the session while Cater was still sleeping. We love the portraits that we are able to capture with sleeping infants in the arms and hands of their lives family members. Their main portrait ended up being one of those poses. Cater was laying against his grandmother Raquel’s chest, sleeping with the most amazing little face all snuggled in. His gorgeous full, dark curly hair was so striking that it made for the best shots.

Then we moved quickly to get a few shots on our stack of white towels. This is a Hayes & Fisk tradition dating back to Mary’s son Jax. Who would have thought that 25 years later that iconic shot would be one of our most requested portraits.

Next, we added in Laiya with Willie and Carter and we were actually able to capture an instant of laughter as Cater’s pouty face was quickly displayed towards his Grandfather. This allowed us to capture a beautiful interaction between Laiya and her father, one filled with joy and laughter as Laiya was just being herself in the moment. We were able to create so many wonderful poses from this session.
