Family in the Garden: The Lawson's Portrait Session

Photographing the Lawson family was an absolute delight! Their stylish charm and vibrant personalities made the session truly memorable. When we first met with Tammy to discuss the perfect spot for their once-in-a-lifetime family portrait, several locations in their beautiful home stood out. Given that this was their first proper family portrait and with their eldest about to head off to college, it was the perfect way to commemorate their milestone journey of 18 summers together.

Tammy ultimately chose the family sitting room, located just inside their front door to the left, as the ideal spot. This prominent location ensures that everyone entering their home will see the portrait, creating a warm and welcoming first impression. Once the location and scale of the portrait were decided, we carefully coordinated the lighting to highlight their faces and harmonize with the background, ensuring a perfect balance with the space.

Together, we selected clothing colors, textures, and styles to complement the stunning African-themed artwork adorning their walls. This thoughtful coordination added an extra layer of beauty and cohesion to the portrait.

Getting to know the Lawson children during the session was a joy. Their interactions were heartwarming and fun to capture. Chase, with his keen sense of style, really embraced the session, providing us with numerous fantastic pose options. Since Addie is about to leave for college, we made sure to focus on her in a few shots, ensuring that Tammy and Vincent will always have her smiling face close by, even when she's away.

Tammy and Vincent have every reason to be proud of each of these children. Their kindness and consideration were evident throughout the session. We were particularly impressed by Chase's initiative in starting a recycling program at his school to repurpose paper and plastic waste. It's remarkable to see such forward-thinking and environmental consciousness in a 13-year-old!

This portrait will forever hold a special place in Tammy and Vincent's hearts, capturing their children in a moment of togetherness before they each embark on their own paths in life. It’s a beautiful reminder that their 18 summers were cherished and well spent.
