Murray Family Beach Session

It’s been 12 years since we have seen the Murray family, a referral from long-time client Lynn Cook, her sister. Amy called us to update their family portrait and we could not have been more excited to catch up with this family at the beach. They were headed to Duck, North Carolina to spend a week in Lynn’s vacation rental and we knew this would make for the perfect backdrop for this portrait.

We decided to plan to session for sunrise to document their annual summer vacations in the Outer Banks and update their family portrait. Their children are growing up and they knew they needed to document this special time.

It was a glorious sunrise, with no humidity, and the lingering clouds allowed us all the time in the world to create the most amazing portraits. We began the session with a complimentary pose to the large canvas portrait we created 13 years ago. Since it was Amy’s favorite portrait ever, we wanted her to love this newly updated addition as much as the original we created.

The beautiful, slow-emerging sun gave us the best background as we moved from the sand dunes to the shoreline. We were grateful for the low wind,  as wind-blown hair would have been a difficult element to deal with at 6:30 a.m. Working through all of the various poses we created for the Murrays last time, we made sure not to miss any combination. Our favorite pose was one of just the kids walking on the beach, which brought back a memory of Aiden falling the last time we captured this shot. This memory had everyone laughing.

We ended the session with Aiden’s senior portraits to match the other children’s, in which a frame was already hanging on the wall waiting just for him. All in all, it was a perfect morning…and Duck Donuts to boot!
